Platinum-Palladium, the story so far

This gallery shows a selection of platinum/palladium prints made as part of my investigation into this print technique. There is a variety of subjects’ still life, landscape and documentary from my personal archive rather than a coherent project, also a range of capture both film and digital. Details of the physical process are in the blog posts relating to this technique, however there a couple of points worth drawing attention to. Image number 5, a tree lined boulevard in Paris, is an iPhone shot, I find the combination of digital and analogue exciting and full of potential. I worked the image up in Photoshop including cropping to square format to produce the transfer negative, this format is a favourite from working with a Mamiya TLR. The fact that the method of capture is not important as all images, unless shooting large/ultra large film, have to be rendered digitally onto transfer film for printing allows more people to experience the satisfaction of creating truly hand made prints, you don’t even need a full darkroom! Image 7 comes from push processed film rated at 3200iso and developed in microphen, I wanted to see how platinum would deal with exaggerated grain structure which is still very apparent after scanning and conversion to digital negative. Once I’m totally satisfied with print consistency I aim to work toward the creation of a project based on this print technique for output; I will also be collaborating with other EXP47 members to print special editions of their work and will be open to discuss commission work. At this point I would welcome any comments or advice about this work so far.
